SPARTAN-III Program Roster

The Spartan-III Program began in 2531, and was mainly backed by ONI Section Three's Colonel James Ackerson. Supported and funded by Beta-5 Division, this new generation of supersoldiers was conceived as a secondary plan to repel Covenant incursions in UNSC space. The Spartan III's are different from their predecessors from both tactical and logistical standpoints. Their Semi-Powered Infiltration armor systems are considerably weaker than the Mjolnir, and their selection criteria was based on colonial volunteers, thus in-keeping with Colonel Ackerson's vision of creating cheaper, easy to maintain contingents of armored troops.
The Spartan-III's headquarters and command center is based in Camp Currahee on the planet Onyx. From what is currently known, the Spartan-III's engaged in at least six major operations ranging from battlefields on Covenant-controlled industrial asteroids, to distant Covenant military outposts such as Pegasi Delta, to asteroid belts. The commanding officer in charge of the entire structure of the Spartan-III's is Lieutenant Commander Kurt Ambrose (also known as SPARTAN-051, an erstwhile member of Spartan-II Blue Team and Green Team).

Operation: PROMETHEUS was the most disastrous mission the Spartan-III's had undertaken. The operation itself consisted in disabling 30 plasma reactors on the surface of K7-49 (a Covenant industrial asteroid situated a few light years away from the UNSC frontier), and lasted seven days, from July 27 to August 2, 2537. While the Spartan-III Alpha Company succeeded in destroying 27 reactors, the entire unit composed of 300 Spartans was lost.

Operation: TORPEDO took place on the planet Pegasi Delta on July 3, 2545. The operation was a success for the Spartan-III's, having destroyed the Covenant refinery on the planet. The only survivors of the mission are Tom-B292 and Lucy-B091.

Zone 67 was a fenced dig site funded by ONI on Onyx. Although it was reported to contain valuable Forerunner artifacts, several Spartan-III fireteams went missing once they entered the area. It was later discovered that the Onyx Sentinels attacked the teams and captured them.
